Matzoun
The homeland of original Matzoun is the Armenian Highlands. It was invented many centuries ago and had a price of gold. Numerous artifacts witness the widespread use of dairy and matzoun particularly in Armenia. Scientists consider that matzoun has been discovered accidentally․ Extra portion of milk left out from the housewife’s attention for a while and instead of being cut, it became thicker and turned into "sour milk" – matzoun. This accidental discovery gradually became widely used. By the way, the root of “matzoun” means to thicken, coagulate, stick. It is known that Persian King Cyrus the Great traveled to Armenia specifically to eat matzoun. According to legend, once when the Emperor was in Armenia, he had a stomach ache. To calm it down, he was offered to eat matzoun, which he enjoyed a lot. After that he often travelled to Armenia especially to eat matzoun, pretending that he had a stomach ache.
